Kuraby Stud is owned and operated by Gavin Klibbe with assistance by parents Ted and Joy. The breeding of brangus was started by Ted and Joy some 30 years ago. Gavin established the stud with 14 of those cows in 1994.
The breeding herd now-days consists of 100 black breeders. They trace back to the "Sarchee" bloodlines. These females were enrolled and then a "Bindaree" bull was purchased. A collection of "Sinai" females were bought after the dispersal sale. A few years ago we were very fortunate to acquire the legendary "Riverview George" from Ron Hanson of the Bindaree Stud. He has outcrossed with Kuraby females exceptionally well and we look forward to infusing these back into our existing herd, and offering his progeny for sale at a later date.
We have always done a small breeding project with our own home bred bulls as we better understand the genetic base - with promising resuts. One of these bulls is "Kuraby Kaiser 302". This bull has beautiful style and length and his progeny are standouts. One such bull is "Kuraby Outback Jack 387", who is outstanding, with superb muscling, weight for age, with good temperament and overall fantastic eye-appeal. Everyone who has seen him has remarked positively. We are now eagerly awaiting his first drop of calves. His semen has been collected which has been sold mainly into Angus herds - who want to increase bone and muscle whilst maintaining length and width. We are extremely proud of him to date.
The red breeding herd consists of 30 breeders. This season we used a home bred quality sire that is of American blood. He has excelled in his growth. We will also be using a variety of red brangus and red angus semen to further improve the quality.
Selected use of AI has been undertaken to extend the genetic base.
The breeders are located in the Logan and Beaudesert areas - just south of Brisbane. All bulls that are selected are transported to the bull depot at Goomeri where they are further screened, fully vaccinated and prepared for sale. The last few years have seen all bulls sold privately.
Whilst we are proud of our achievements to date, our vision of a magnificent quality herd of black or red animals in green pastures, keeps us inspired and committed to improving them even further.
